Angel Barrios was a Spanish composer and guitarist born in Granada on May 4, 1882. He received his musical education under leading figures of his time, including Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Rodrigo, and Andrés Segovia. Barrios was regarded as one of the most notable composers of his generation and was a key representative of the Spanish Musical Nationalism.
Barrios composed a great number of works, including guitar solos, piano music, chamber music, operas, and zarzuelas. Some of his most famous works for guitar include "Vals de los Pajaritos," "Vals de Albéniz," and "Aires de la Alhambra."
In addition to his composition, Barrios was also known for his virtuosity on the guitar and performed extensively throughout Spain and abroad. He died on February 17, 1964, in Madrid, leaving behind a legacy of influential music for the classical guitar.
